Fundraiser for Brevard's Homeless Children

On Saturday, June 9, 2012, Brevard County Manatees vs. Lakeland Flying Tigers; Gates open at 5:00pm with first pitch at 6:35pm. 

General admission tickets are $7.00 each OR we've arranged for exclusive use of the BERM area for a "BERM Deck Party" for Brevard County Realtors, their friends and family. These tickets are $25.00 each which includes an all you can eat hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and soda, plus Happy Hour beer pricing from gate open to first pitch. Bring your blankets, chairs or grab a seat on the deck (limited seating on the deck). Tickets purchased at the stadium directly from the Brevard County Manatees do not apply.

Raffle tickets will be sold before and during the game for a 7th Inning Drawing for a weekend Get Away at the Hilton Cocoa Beach Oceanfront Hotel!

ALL proceeds raised from the sale of the tickets for the game and raffle will be donated to the Brevard Schools Foundation to be used to meet the needs of the 1000+ homeless children in our schools.

'Hairspray' set to rock in Cocoa Village

Teen pursues stardom, rallies against segregation in play.

The stylish folks at Cocoa Village Playhouse want you to let your hair down and kick up your heels — “Hairspray the Musical” opens this weekend.

Set in the early 1960s, the story focuses on Tracy Turnblad, a plus-size sophomore in high school who has a zest for life. She wants to be a part of everything, said the play’s costume designer, Dan Hill, including a chance to dance on “The Corny Collins Show.”

“She's making her way and trying to prove to the rest of the crowd that she's got what it takes,” Hill said about Tracy, who is played by Hayley Vervalin.

Grant BBQ Fest expands to 2 days of lip-smacking fun

Whether it’s sweet and spicy or slow and low, rib-sticking barbecue takes center stage during this weekend’s Grant BBQ Fest. And for the first time in 10 years, the festival spans two days, promising more entertainment, more family-friendly fun and more barbecue.

“We're Friday and Saturday now — that's big,” said organizer Timmy Vee, morning show co-host for WA1A-FM (107.1). “We have live bands this year and an expanded arts and crafts area. Plus, we doubled up on all our companies in the area that are sponsoring, so that’s probably lots of freebies. It should be a great time.”

Bowling for the Troops isn't only about strikes or spares. It's about raising money to provide counseling for families of military personnel returning from combat with post-traumatic stress disorder.

Rockledge gets ready for its first Memorial Day parade

Memorial Day event is first for city.

The idea began with two retired veterans.

Veterans groups in Melbourne put on a Memorial Day parade each year. Parades, barbecues and cookouts take place all the time up north, where the two were from. Why not Rockledge?

Now, the city's first Memorial Day parade is set for the Sunday before the May 30 holiday along Barton Boulevard.
